Company Profile

On the 26th November 1948, Sergeant Thomas George Parkes, XV 126295, successfully completed and passed a Motor Spray Painting Course after his discharge from the Australian Army at the close of the war.

Tom Parkes sought and gained employment as a vehicle re-finisher. After years of practical experience he was employed as a painter at one of Melbourne's prestigious vehicle importers and distributors, working on such cars as Packard, Rolls Royce and Bentley.

In May 1951, he resigned on his own accord to commence his own business contracting the smash repair paintwork for a large Ford dealership in Bridge Road, Richmond.

In July 1960, Tom Parkes moved to the present site and opened for business trading as Ulysses Body Works with a partner. The business prospered and grew and in 1963 Tom bought his partner out and began trading under his own name as Parkes Body Works.

In 1965, Trevor Parkes with a background in commerce, management and marketing, joined his father in the business. Together they established their identity as quality collision repairers with a genuine desire to satisfy their customers' needs and wants.

Parkes Body Works was incorporated in January 1971 and a rebuilding programme on the present location was commenced in 1977. Shortly after this period, Tom and Trevor imported and installed some of the most sophisticated and precise body alignment and paint systems, which were almost unknown in Australia.

With this "state of the art" equipment, conscientious staff, attention to detail, and a professional business approach they established Parkes Body Works Pty. Ltd. as a market leader.

In 1982 and 1984, Parkes Body Works was the recipient of two Government grants, via the Small Business Development Corporation to travel overseas to study the smash repairs industry.

In 1986, operations were computerized and Parkes Body Works developed and progressed at a rapid rate.

Parkes Body Works trebled their size in 1988 by acquiring the property next door. With proper planning and industrious endeavour, Tom and Trevor have turned their complex into one of the most modern, well equipped, smash repair shops in Australia, capable of restoring your accident damaged vehicle to its pre-accident condition with a minimum of down time.

Parkes Body Works consider it would be a privilege to repair your car and extend an invitation for you to visit us and inspect our facilities.
